How To Enjoy ‘Me Time’ On A Budget.

How To Enjoy ‘Me Time’ On A Budget.

The older I get the more important it is that I set some time aside for myself, time that I can dedicate to self-care and just unwind.  Day to day life can become so hectic and at times overwhelming, ‘me time’ keeps me sane. Even if it is just a few minutes to compose myself it really helps.

People often hear ‘me time’ and think it entails going out or booking a weekend away. This is not necessarily the case. It is very easy to set aside enjoy ‘me time’ from the comfort of your home without spending an arm and a leg….

Take A Break From Social Media.

Sometimes staying off your phone is a scary thought. But in this day and age we have become so reliant on social media and technology its crazy. Not long ago I watched a show called ‘Eden’ where they took ‘normal’ people and saw how they coped living without modern technology. I watched in awe thinking to myself could things really be that simple. I find something so peaceful about the idea of going without it.

I’m not saying abandon ship and migrate to a jungle somewhere but taking a break even for an hour or so if you live on your phone can be so relaxing. Once you get passed the ritualistic going to grab your phone every few minutes it becomes so much easier to clear your mind and relax.

Have A Soak.

You can’t beat the feeling of a warn bubble bath, or some relaxing bath salts. You don’t have to go all out. Course sea salt is great for relieving aches and pains and who doesn’t love a bit of radox? I always find if I have a long soak and do all my ‘lady stuff’ while i’m in there I come out ready to take on the world.

Bath Faves:

Sanctuary Salt Scrub

Floating Island Bath Melt

Spa Of The World Egyptian Milk & Honey Bath (Bodyshop)

Read A Book.

Reading is not for everyone, or should I say everyone has a different taste. Whether it’s a gripping novel,  self-help book, trashy magazine or a how-to. Allow yourself to indulge. I find the idea of reading something I can turn the pages of so therapeutic. However I don’t’ to this often, with two young kids it’s a matter of time before they get to it. So I listen to audio books, and podcasts, I enjoy them a bit too much. Even if I’m just doing household chores and have them playing in the background its makes the time fly by.

Things I like to ‘read’:

Beloved- Toni Morrison

One Day My Soul Just Opened Up- Iyanla Vanzant

Sleepers- Lorenzo Carcaterra

Noughts and Crosses- Malorie Blackman

48 Laws Of Power-Robert Greene

Vogue Magazine

Marie Claire Magazine

Listen To Some Music.

I mean put on your ‘comfy clothes’ lounge on the sofa, bed , floor, whatever you like and just get lost in your favourite music. Music is therapy, we all know this unless you are my uncle… The only person I have ever met who is ‘Indifferent’ to music, no matter the genre he just doesn’t get into it.

So whatever tickles your fancy put it on and chill out. I probably do this the most,  it’s my ‘go to’ when I get both girls to nap at the same time.

My Picks:

The Real Thing- Jill Scott

Linkin Park- Hybrid Theory

Hard- Jagged Edge

8701- Usher

Overgrown-James Blake

Mad Love- JoJo

These are my favourite ways to unwind at home, spa days and shopping trips are great but if you are not in a position to indulge,  just taking some time out does the trick.

How do you unwind?

What do you do for ‘me time’?
